I just wanted to give one last message to you all. First, I would like to thank you for contributing to the class room and to the generation of all this new knowledge. I think the Showcase was fantastic, and I hope that you all see the applicablity of your work to the academic discourse community.
I am working on getting all your grades up and current. Please make sure that you also invite Morgan to your portfolio. Her usf net id is gresham.
If you have any questions and or comments, please let me know. My email addresses are krobinson75@gmail.com and kkrobins@Mail.usf.edu.
Remember, as I mentioned the Nietzsche quote in class, "one repays a teacher badly if one remains nothing but a pupil," so make sure you "pay me" back by sharing what you have learned with others.
Take care, and keep in touch,

For Monday-No Class on Friday July 4th

Hello all,

Thanks again for a great class. I really liked the openness and all of your's desire to share your experiences.

Today, in class, we discussed:
1. Reviewed the readings for today and your blog reading posts. Make sure that your blog is listed on the class blog (usffsi2008.blogspot.com). If you don't see your link, please email me at krobinson75@gmail.com or kkrobins@mail.usf.edu with the address and I will post it to the main blog.

2. We discussed the vocabulary wiki. Please go to usffsi.pbwiki.com and make sure that you are authorized to post a comment on the wiki. If you are not, please create an account and then request access through email or through the wiki to have authorization to post.

3. Reviewed outlining and project one work. Discussed memoir outlines and structure.

4. General questions and concerns were discussed.

Remember there is no CLASS on Friday due to the Holiday, so you will want to make sure to complete all of your work for Monday.

For Monday, you will need to:

1. Go to usffsi2008.blogspot.com. Select one of your peer's blogs and read their first reading blog posting about Wexler and the Franklins. Post a 100 word comment to their post. (There will be no reflection post for this week, since we are not having class on Friday).

2. Go to usffsi2008.pbwiki.com. Go to the Vocabulary page. In the comment area, post your five words that you learned for the week. You will need to post the word, the definition, and an example sentence using the word. Remember, you can subscribe to a word a day through awad.org. This is a great way to keep building your vocabulary.

3. Go to Web Resources. Select Class Readings. Read the three 7/2 readings. You will use this for your Monday Reading Blog Posting. Create an overview, reaction, and questions in regards to these readings. Post this reading blog posting on your blog by Monday.

4. Go to Assignments. Go to Project One Folder. Review the sample memoirs on this page. You will create an outline, in your style, for your memoir. Remember to look at the topic that you brainstormed in class on Weds. Your outline needs to have a beginning, a middle, and a conclusion that also explains what you learned. Bring this to class either electronically or on paper.

Remember on Monday, the writing workshops begin, so pay attention to when and where you need to be for your session.

Also on Monday, we will go to our traditional classes. Kat's class is in DAV 232 and Morgan's class is in DAV 240.

Kat's office hours are M/W/F from 12-2, so feel free to stop by the Academic Success Center to chat or to "geek" out. I am also available from 2-4 on M/W.

Take care, and email me with questions.

Kat

For Weds...

Hello all,

It was great meeting you all today, and I look forward to working with you all.

Today in class, we...

1. Handled introductions and checked the roll. Remember for class on Weds., we will be in ROOM DAV 130. We will return to normal classrooms on Monday July 7. Morgan Gresham will be on campus and holding office hours on Thursday. (Check the Welcome address under course documents for more information)

2. Reviewed the syllabus and technology components. All of you should have a blog address.
Please go to usffsi2008.blogspot.com to check and see if your blog is listed in the Class Blogs section. If your blog is not listed, you need to email Kat Robinson at krobinson75@gmail.com with the blog address. This is where you can review and look at your peer's blogs.

We also created accounts for the Vocabulary Wiki at pbwiki.com. I have added everyone to the wiki (usffsi2008.pbwiki.com). Please go to the wiki and make sure that you are added as a writer. You will use this wiki to post your five vocabulary words a week. You will post these usually before class on Friday.

3. Discussed the Reading, Reaction, and Reflection portion of the class. Remember, traditionally on Mondays, you will post your reading blog posting on your blog; on weds., you will post a reaction to one of your peers' reading blog postings on their blog; and on Friday, you will post your reflection blog posting in reference to your peer's reaction blog posting on your blog. We only discussed the reading blog posting today, so if you want to review before the discussion on Weds., you can look under assignments and you will see the handout that goes into detail about these exercises.

4. We completed a blind free-writing for Project One. All the items you will need for project one are located under assignments Project One Folder on blackboard.

5. The assignments that are due on Weds. are:
a. Complete the 6/30 readings located under web resources. You will read and review the various blog postings located on the first memory writer blog. Then you will listen to the NPR Storycorps link located below the link for the memory blog.

b. Following the reading and listening, you will go to your blog and post a reading blog posting following the format listed and defined under assignments area. Your reading blog posting should be around 250 words and should have a 1.summary of the main points in the two pieces, 2. a personal reaction to the two pieces, and 3. three questions that you have about the two pieces. Traditionally, you will be assigned readings on Friday, and this reading blog posting will be due on Monday.

c. Look at your blind free writes from class. Think about an occurence in your life that has allowed, defined, or created WHO you are today. You can look at the memoir samples located in project one folder for some guidance. Narrow your point of view to one major event. Bring this event to class or post on your blog.

d. Starting next week, you will attend your assigned Writing Workshop. Some of you will be assigned to attend Monday's workshop, and some of you will be assigned to attend Weds.'s workshop. You must attend all of your assigned workshops. Friday's workshops are optional; however, you must attend at least two friday workshops during the course of the semester.

Welcome to ENC 1101

Please post your blog addresses as a comment to this post.

So Monday is upon us, and the first day of Summer B classes will begin.

Just a few points to ponder for all you future students.

1. You are all bright and shiny just like your new backpacks and pencils. All of you are A students as we speak, so I encourage you to stay an A student. Come to class on time, do the reading, and create your own knowledge.

2. Homework is to be completed prior to class time. You have the time, you have the skills, so just buckle down and do it.

3. I encourage you to print out the syllabus and bring it to class.

4. Get a binder. I don't want you to throw away anything. Be organized and keep it all.

5. Look over bb. I have a ton of materials that are on the site. Get comfy with the set-up we will be using it alot.

6. The library is your friend. You will be going there soon. So get a map and locate the library.

7. Respect yourself, others, and me in the classroom and in life.

8. If your cell phone rings in class, you will do the Hokey-Pokey in front of the class. Put it on silent.

9. Be prepared. We are going to cover a lot of material, but we are also going to have a lot of fun. (Yes, learning can be fun).

I hope that this helps to prepare you. I will see you this Monday.

Take care,

Kat Robinson
